Default turbo for my 5.4

Thinking about turboing my 2000 F150. It's an extended cab, 4x4 with auto trans. Everyone around my town is running quick times in their turbo diesels. Just wondering if anyone has turboed a ford. I'm thinking of getting a longblock out of a lighting and using my stock intake. Something also will have to be done about the trans. Will a lighting trans bolt up to the transfer case? Anybody have some ideas?

I've seen some of the lightning guys swaping their blowers for turbo setups and doing pretty well. My truck won't be nearly as light as theirs but it would be pretty fun to spank a few of those diesel trucks. I'm looking to get around 500 daily drivable hp.

Turbo's are for sure a better way to make power. It takes alot to turn the supercharger and hardly nothing to spool a turbo. I have a 5.4 DOHC going in a OLD truck and plan on running a small turbo on it.

Are you going with a kit or you doing a home build? Are the lightning motor's built with all forged internals? I've seen guys getting 700 stock. just wondering how the internals will hold up.

No. L motors are Forged cranks and pistons, crap rods. Bout the only thing you'd gain going to a L shortblock would be the lower comp ratio right off the bat unless you put a set of rods in it at a minimum.

Hope over in the Lightning section and read a little bit. There's at least three turbo'd trucks, two of the being Gen 2's...

Maybe if you pickup the L shortblock and toss some good rods in it, you'd be fine. I dont think I would have hurt my pistons if the rods hadn't come out first.

I have had 3 different turbo combinations on my Lightning now... Maybe about to go to a 4th turbo.

It made ~740RWHP with the GT42-76@23psi and the stock longblock but I don't recommend that at all I raced it all '05 season with about 600RWHP/700RWTQ but it was always on race fuel and it went 10.75@126 (best MPH was almost 130)

Sounds like I'd just come out better by rebuilding my stock engine. I know a lot more about the GM motors than the ford. Any good sticky's around here so I can read up on the ford motors? How big can you take the 5.4 out to. I know the GM 6.0 can easily be made into a 402 by adding the stroker crank. I'm sure the 5.4 can be stroked. Just wondering how big I could make it.

Well the stroke is already long enough, IMO, at 4.165" If you want more cubic inches, I'd go with more bore, but that will come at a hefty cost as well.
