advice on increasing performance for 2005 F-150 5.4L lariat
I have a 2005 5.4L F-150 lariat and want to increase my performance. If I could increase performance and gas mileage at the same time that would be great I just am curious on what would be the best way to do it. My best guess would be to install a cold air intake system and also an exaust package but as to which ones would be the best for my truck I have no idea. All suggestions appreciated! thanks

#2 look into a gear swap
#3 long tube headers are the only way to go, OBX offers a nice set of stainless for affordable
#4 keep your exhaust at 2.5 inch with a cross over...

for gas mileage, forced induction is gonna be the way to go, IF you can keep your foot out of it lol. for a start, cai, lt headers and catback with a custome tune should really wake up the truck and improve gas mileage(again, your right foot is gonna be your worst enemy with the newfound power)

Thanks for all of your suggestions....however I dont think I can afford the super charger kits right now. And I ave heard scary things about custom tunings. Intake and exhaust might be the best I can do. I saw a quote though and want to know if there is any truth to it.... what do you think about this...
"any of you with a 5.4L 04-07 chck out custom tuning. the 5.4L runs slightly lean from the factory, adding an intake makes it dangerously lean. only way to correct them is from custom tuning. check out f150online forums, VMPtuning, troyer performance, and/or powerhungryperformance for info"

Intake & exhaust only, on your F150 5.4........I really doubt you will be impressed. I've driven them with intake & exhaust, and a custom tune, and was not impressed at all. The only way they don't feel drastically underpowered that I've experienced is by adding forced induction.

I know of a vortech for a 3 valve 5.4 for $1500, it put down 450/450 on a stock long block truck
