This may be a stupid question........

I've been reading up a little on ls forced induction and have noticed that the guys running 20 lbs of boost are using meth injection (I assume to keep IAT at a reasonable level thereby decreasing detonation?).

I had a Buick Turbo T in college that had been built. T-64 (iirc), Patriot stage II aluminum heads, girdle kit, trans, etc. that would boost 26-28lbs (maybe capable of more, but I could never get it to stick). That car did not have any type of injection system on it, and only had the front mount intercooler.

My question is why? How come the little 3.8 could take so much more boost compared to these little V-8's without injection?

 

Well...first thing I see, the Buick 3.8L turbo motor has like 8:1 or 8.5:1 CR. My stock long block 6.2L has 10.5:1 CR.

 

Not to mention we have timing that plays a huge roll in detonation, knock.

 

Yea,, Methanol is higher octane and cools the intake charge. both of those mean add more timing.

 

On my last motor I didnt have meth and had bad detonation...



Now I spray lots of meth.

 

Yaaaaa, I dont think thats gonna buff out.
