vortech supercharger question
#1
I have a vortech supercharger on a 5.3 ecsb. It will boost up to 11 pounds and scream but when it shifts gear it bogs down until it boost again. Is there any way of keeping it in the boosst so it doesnt bog?

What does the boost drop too when it shifts? A higher stall converter will keep the RPM from dropping as much between shifts thus keeping the boost up. My PI2800 allows my RPM to stay about 800rpm higher after the shift. Just for referance.. Do you have a wideband? If so what is your AFR when it bogs down? If you dont have one you should if you are running 11psi.

No I don't have wide band. I have been reading on it. I really don't know what it is and where to on getting one. Its tuned with the vortech programmer that came with the setup. I bought the truck with it installed and the guy had already changed the pulley to get more boost but I dont think he changed the tune. I got a 2.87 pulley I want to put on it which is even smaller and a westers garage tuned computer to go with it. I also have a bigger bypass valve which I havent put on it yet. Right now it just has the vortech supplied bypass valve.

yeah you need to slow down and get a real tune. your probably lean as hel right now if you have done a puley swap.
you need a wideband asap. if your anything above 12.0-1 afr your in danger.

The stock pulley was 3.33.The guy I bought the truck from put a 3.25 or the 3.125 with the vortech tune. The westers garage computer is tuned for a 5.3 with a vortech charger and the 2.87 pulley. Should i change to it? And where do I get a wideband?

You need to get a dyno graph of your truck, find out where your power band is and then post up your gearing. Then we can tell you what size stall to get so that you stay in your power band and don't spend too much time trying to get into it. Oh and get a tune before you do anything else or your truck will go boom!
