Default Turbo/Tranny questions

Ok, it looks like I am finally going to put the STS on my truck. My question is should I do anything to the trans first to make it stronger? I have a shift kit already, but I was wondering if I should do anything else. I only plan on running 5-6lbs for awhile. Would it be worth the money to do anything to beef it up or will it be ok with low boost?

Also, I am have a problem at WOT around 30 and 60 it wont shift it just bounces off the rev limiter. And sometimes a sylinoid will get stuck open and it wont shift out of 1st. I do have a 3000 stall and a shift kit. Could it be the stall or shift kit, or could it be in the tune?

Any help would be great

i had similar problem with you. if you going to put STS in your truck, I think it's better for you to do tranny first and turbo, because if you Put STS system 5-6psi, tranny won't take long, you have to build it anyways.

Sounds like you need to do some work on the tranny.Change that bd noid.Change the fluid and so on.
The shift kit shoudn't make it not shift. Is it slipping any?or just won't upshift.
Honestly, even with low boost i'll give that tranny one week before it takes a dump on ya.
At the very least have it gone through and put in the 65E upgrades. All the normal stuff 5 pinion planetary gears front and back.Depending on the year you have the pump from a 65e etc etc.Get some good clutch paks in that thing.
A good build should run you roughly 800-1100in parts.1100 being a badass build that will take alot of abuse.
A 800 dollor build taken a large amount of punishment.

I have a 2003 SSS. I have replaced the sylinoid once before and it has only done it once or twice since(6-8months). I just don't know whats causing it do stick open. From around 30 its not slipping it just hits the rev lim and keeps bouncing off of it.

Forgot to mention its the upgraded GT67

I would definately consider a "Beast" shell along with the upgraded clutch packs. You may want to consider a hardened shaft as well.

Thanks for the advice. Any thoughts about what is causing the problems?

I would start getting the parts together for an 80e swap. If you shop around you can get a pretty good deal on a low milage one from a junk yard. I got one for $850.00. You will be glad you did in the long run. You can rebuild your 60, but as soon as you start turning up the boost you are going to find the limit of it.

Yeah, I do want an 80e, but I didn't know if the 65e would be good enought with just 5-6lbs.

It would probably last if you stayed at 5-6 #. Problem is no one ever stays at 5-6 lbs. It wont take long for you to want more and as soon as you do your tranny will hate you. My 60 with servos and a shift kit lasted less than a month after I did a pully change and custom tune. The way I look at it you will be better off in the long run to spend the money once on an 80e and not have to do it again later.

SSturbo is my brother and im not sure if some have read it or not but he does have a silverado AWD ss with a Yank 3k stall, HD2 transgo shift kit, aluminum accumulator piston and vette servo. He had no tranny probs before these parts.. After install and a tune from pcmforless, downshifts were raised on 1-2 shifts as well as 3-4. Whenever he would downshift at the maximum mph for the 2-1 downshift around 35 or so it would bang off of the rev limiter, but a few mph under that speed it was perfect and would slam you in your seat.. He said now it did it to him on the highway going from 4-2 at around 60, his other hard downshift.

Now a few months ago we put his STOCK pcm back in(kept it for a backup) and there were absolutely NO shifting probs with the tranny but it, but the factory downshift points were at least 5 mph lower all around and it felt like a dog lol. I believe line pressure is still around 5-10% which i believe should be lowered to 0% since there is a shift kit on the truck...This may be causing the solenoid problem coupled with the 3k stall in a 5500lb truck. I truely believe/hope that this is a tuning issue and not hardware...He does not beat on this truck at all..it has maybe 12 1/4 mile passes on it and a handfull of street races in 3 years..other than that it goes to and from school.
