Turbo Tailpipe Delima?
#1
Hi, I have a rear mounted turbo setup on my Yukon XL, and just added an tail pipe last night that is consists of about 2' of heavy wall 3" pipe, some thin wall mandrel bends, and a 3.5" tip. After adding the tailpipe the boost does come on much faster than without one.
But the exhaust sound is one of the worst things I have heard, it's pretty raspy during acceleration, the turbo whine has turned in to a muffled one shounding like it's under water, letting off the throtle yeilds some loud popping sounds, and there is drone in the cab.
Before the tailpipe the truck sounded pretty much like stock one from inside with a nice moderate sound during spooling, outside it was slightly louder than stock.
So my question is to make it sound better utilizing a tailpipe, do I need to use thicker walled pipe such as some 3" schd 40 pipe, increase tubing size, add a muffler, resonator, or just leave it off? Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Magnaflow part number 14419 is a 14" long 4" diameter polished stainless muffler with 3" in and out. These work well right before the tailpipe exit to reduce annoying sounds. It's straight through, perforated core.

I run two of these right before turndowns out back. They worked for me.
