Default Turbo size help...

I am debating a turbo build for the s10. As of now I have a lq4 with 317 heads, a 224/224 568 cam, and a choice of the ls6 or truck intake. I would be using a truck mani on one side and a log on the other. This would be a front 'top' mount system. Could you guys offer some good candidates?? From what Ive seen, the cam shouldnt be too bad for a turbo, but if needed, I can always use the ls6 one. Thanks in advance, John

I'd look for around a 70-76mm area turbo.

What are you looking for? Quick spooling? *****-to-the-wall power? There's probably a decent range of sizes that you can use, but it all depends on what characteristics you're looking for.

I am looking for about 500-550rwhp. I would like to keep the shortblock stock, save some rod bolts. What about a mp70? What size ar?? Ive used the search, but havent found much with a 6.0 front mount.

I would go with a .81 housing on a MP T-70; spool will be really quick and it will suport your power goals efficiently.

What was said before,70-76 mm. your 500-550 goal should be pretty easy to obtain.

For that low of HP numbers a small turbo will get it done.
Street stuff stay in the 60's family, race go into the 70's.
WJ Mark is knock on 500 @ 10psi with a 5.3 and heavy *** tires with a smaller turbo no lag.. LOL

I have ran both a T66 .81AR, and a T76 .96AR. I have a 6.0l and I run between 10-14PSI. The T66 has some lag but not too bad for my elevation. The T76 has horrific lag, at least 2-3 times the lag time of the 66. For 12LBS and under the the 66 is the way to go. At 12-15psi the 76 will murder it. I orderd a .68 AR housing for the 76. Hope it will take care of some of the lag, and not kill me up top too bad.

You guys are a big help! What do you think about that cam?? From what I read, they usually like to see an intake 6* more than the exhaust unless it is a very efficient system. Maybe the 66 would like it more??

For a turbo, unless you are doing an all-out build, cam choice is less important than with an NA. A turbo with significant back pressure (e.g. a street setup with low lag) will like a reverse split (intake has more duration than exhaust). 6* is fine, trying to get as close to 0* overlap as you can. If you get a great flowing turbine (e.g. big *** race turbo) then a forward split is the best choice (e.g. exhaust has more duration than intake).

I'd do a 66 or a 70 personally. Keep the A/R small for fast street spooling and "instant" boost.
