Default Turbo Life Expectancy/Replacement

Okay...background then some questions.

I'm currently running the base STS turbo (Garret T04E, 60-1 trim, .81 a/r) at 10 psi which is probably "off the map" for this turbo. Have about 60K miles on turbo and I am hearing kind of a "farting" noise from the exhaust....not surge noise either. I haven't checked for play in wheels yet but it is on my list.

So...

1) What else can I check that might be causing the noise? Going upstream, I would guess exhaust leaks and then valves?

2) If I wanted to replace the turbo, what would a good "drop in" replacement be to run 10psi that would fit on the current T3 flange?

Questions, thoughts or suggestions????

Think i'd go ahead and upgrade to a t-4 garrett i'm using a 4094R (67mm) /w a .95 a/r exhaust housing and it is a ball bearing turbo. I think it's sized perfectly for my 5.6L motor..
my motor starts building boost by 2400-2600rpms and full boost by 3200 cant ask for much better imo..

I would love to go with a T4 but I not excited about putting in any more money than absolutely necesary. Just need a reasonable and economical replacement that will get me 10 psi.

I can get you setup with a Master Power, either T60, T64, or T70 T3 or T4, all for around $600 brand new with one year warranty. Just let me know.
