Default Turbo backpressure gauge

If I were wanting to add a boost gauge to measure back pressure on the turbine side, where would be the best place to put it? The heat is obviously a concern, so I need to ponder that some more. This is more for curiosity than anything else...

As long as its before the wastegate the pressure should be constant. You will need to do like the diesel guys and use coiled up copper tubing to dissipate some of the heat before attaching the boost sending unit. Autometer PN 3224 is what you need then your boost gauge sending unit plugs right into that.

yup just run a section of copper or aluminum tubing to disipate heat and switch to what ever hose you want and a guage

I had one for a while. I just tapped the manifold right before the turbo for 1/8npt and put a 1/4'' soft copper tube about 2' in length that coiled around a few times with a nipple on the other end and ran it to an extra boost gauge. Worked good.

Coming back to this idea...just installed this:

Havent tested it yet, but the coils are down in the air flow so it should loose most of the heat.

damn thats alot of tubing.... BTW, you dont need that long of a tube. My first one was two or three feet, then my second was about 14" long. Both with steel tube. Most factory diesels run back pressure with about a 6" section of tubing. If you think about it, you only need to isolate the heat from the actual pipe not the temp of the exhaust gas. I also found you need a pretty small orifice to "clean up" the exhaust pulses..

I just went ahead and used all the was in the kit, not a big deal IMO. Im using a mechanical gauge, so I was more worried about melting the plastic hose on the other end.

Really interested in seeing the results of this.
Dusty what were your ratios again? Didn't you also do this with the STS?

This will really tell me if the T4 is too small after all! I hope its less than 1.75:1 backpressure to boost, otherwise I might be forced to upgrade...
