Default Trouble starting

Hey guys. I thought I would post this here since my truck is turbo'd but the problem might not be related. '05 GMC 6.0 stock internals with an STS kit, Alky Control meth, custom IC, currently tuned at 5psi, with about 11000 miles. My problem is starting: If I go out and try to start it up cold, I can turn the switch and then release it but the starter remains engaged for about 5-10 seconds. But it will eventually start after about the second or third try. Now just yesterday I left work to run to Home Depot which got it up to operating temp. and when I came out the starter did not remain engaged but it took about 15 minutes just to get it started!! It finally lit off so I went back to work and at quitting time it did it again, another 10-15 minutes. I got it home, shut it off, and tried to restart it again probably 15 times and every time it fired right up. I have had to work long hours and had no time to check anything, but I figured I would post here for some ideas/thoughts on the situation before I dive in head first and start troubleshooting. Thanks for any help!!

My truck has done similar things but never that long to start. It only happens when my truck is at operating temp and I accidentally cut it off shortly after boost. I've learned to let the truck run for at least a minute or two after boost not only to help cool the turbo and help bearing life but to let everything else cool. When I don't do this, that is when the starting problem occurs. It usually happens when i put it in park and cut it off quickly. Try letting it run for a few seconds then cut it off. If that doesn't work then I am at a loss. check fuel pressure

Thanks for the reply. I will try the suggestion. I normally do wait a little while before shutting it off, and I let it idle down the driveway or through the parking lot at work just to spool the turbo down. But maybe I need to let it just sit for a minute and idle. When I get time I'll look it over and post if I find anything. Thanks again!!

Just to follow up, I was told by a GM tech that the starter remaining engaged is due to a "crank timer" in the PCM that is activated when the key is turned to start. It disengages when the engine starts or it times out, whichever comes first. But, I still have starting issues, and all fingers are pointing at the fuel pressure regulator. Since I can't find a shop manual locally I am relying on help from the forum, and I was told the FPR, fuel pump, and filter are all one unit on the '05 models. So if that is true, can the FPR be changed individually of the entire unit or am I stuck with buying everything? If it is all one piece, then how are you guys running Walbro or other high flow pumps on the later models? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hello again. I finally got around to working on my truck again after months of family sicknesses and adding a little one. I purchased a fuel pump kit from Magnacharger (a Walbro 255) and just installed it. I still have zero fuel pressure at the port on the engine and of course the truck will not start. Any ideas? I am getting 12volts at the pump, but my fuel gauge reads zero. If it is the regulator can it be removed and replaced on the in-tank module and if so, where can I find one? I am assuming the FPR is connected to the filter in the module assembly. I really could use some help on this as I am short on time and I am running out of ideas. Thanks in advance!!!!!

My truck is taking longer to start but pretty sure it's an injector leaking down.
You could possibly have one stuck open.
