I like the turbo because of not needing all the bolt ons to be fast, not to mention the gas mileage. A front mount would probably be best if you are in a cooler area of the country IMHO. But if you've got bolt ons already, there are alot of fast trucks with the mag.

kbracing96 had an STS and converted to a front mount. His track times were almost identical. Boost is boost. The difference is that the rear mount takes longer to spool up. I'm sure he'll see this thread and post his experiences.

I mostly agree with this Boost is boost except when it's not lol (e.g. 10psi at 80* is a lot better than 10psi at 280* )

Kb did a really interesting experiment as I recall too -- as he moved to the front mount, he kept the same turbo (for a while or still I don't recall) to give a real apples to apples picture of the difference in spool times. My only beef is that the A/R was too small for a front mount (but it did give me the idea for running small housings on the street to make it come on like a radish on the twin kit hehe, so credit where its due!!).

Had he changed the housing to something better for the front, the lag would have been a lot closer imo.

No?

I'm with TurboBerserker, I'm sure the spool time with kbracing96 custom front mount, but with the same exhaust housing as the STS, it better.
I don't really understand why turbo lag is so hard for people to get along with.. Maybe I'm such a damn good driver....lol....

Bottom line HDK-OS, You've came to the right place. You just need to let us know what you want out of your truck and I'm sure we can point you in the right direction. (aka. STS)

Like Thunder said, boost is boost. I did do the STS to front mount and my overall power and track times are pretty much the same. The biggest thing I did gain was street spool time with the front mount. I did keep the small A/R from the rear mount which did give me really nice spool times. I have since upgraded to a bigger compressor, but keep the same small exhaust housing cuz I like my truck fun to drive on the street . That helps a lot with the low torque a 4.8 has any how, but the decrease in lag has lead to an increase in traction problems, lol.

I still wouldn't hesitate to put a STS kit on any truck. They are a great kit, and if I was building a gas truck to tow with especially with a 6l I would really consider it, cuz it does keep a lot more heat out of the engine bay and setup correctly still has minimal/acceptable lag.

I would definately go with a front mount turbo vs. rear mount.
I just asked Rick to give me the details of his kits and updated the post to include both Trick kits. I don't know why I didn't think of that before
