Default Should I bump it up to 10psi? (stock 5.3)

I'm addicted.. but really can't afford to have my engine to blow up. I seem to find that 10psi is the make it or break it boost level for these engines. I was starting to think though, if I add a meth kit- would that GREATLY decrease the odds of it blowing up?

what other things could happen? Lift a head? I have no idea how much psi it takes to do that though.

I saw a clip on youtube of a guy running 16psi on a 4.8L...... I feel forever slow now after seeing that!

Im running 10 psi on a stock bottom 4.8 plus my heads are milled .035" which brings my compression up quite a bit. This is without meth too. My brother used to run 13 psi on his 5.3 with a magnacharger n it was fine his heads were also milled .035" he used meth though. I say u should be safe with 12-13 psi with meth and a good tune

You have answered your own question. Just remember, you need to pay to play in this hobby!

I agree with this. If you feel safe where you are with boost, then stay there and start building a more stout motor for more boost.

Build a motor for boost and put 16+ to it, and if for some reason anything happens to it, at least you'll have the stock motor to put back in it.

Just my .02 -- I'm not a FI nut... yet.

11 psi ..... 18 degrees of timing.. plenty of fuel and no problems. And I also have 10.3:1 compression. Only suggest this on a dyno tune though not mail order

YAh go 10 psi or hell of 12.. Make sure the tune and fuel are on and you will be fine.. The question is if the other parts(trans-rear) can hold it

How much boost are u currently pushing? Is the boost reference connected to the intake manifold or at the turbo?

it doesnt matter if your running 5 lbs or 12 lbs anything can happen at any time. but yes lots of guys running 12+ lbs with no problems. ive been running 11lbs for over a year and now running 13#'s . but like other say be prepared to fork it out if it pops.
