i have had a custom rear mount setup for a year and a half or so, the filter is pointed towards the rear of the truck just above and forward of the right hand wheel completely exposed to the elements. With the sock and rainy vancouver bc weather I have only had it foul my MAF once but only because i drove through a puddle which was half way up my tires at a fairly high speed. I often pull off the intake piping at the maf to have a look and see how dirty it is, last time after 4 months of winter driving there wasnt a spec of dirt or oil residue. I have driven in many downpours sometimes on a day to day basis and not had a problem. The truck is always parked outside so when the weather is wet the filter does not get a chance to dry out.

Iv'e had mine for a few years and never used the sock. I never had any problems with mine. Is the filter located were the bed meets the cab? I can remember someone else on here had the same problem and just added a sheild to keep the water from hitting it directly. My truck is a long bed and the turbo is further back so i never had this issue.

Ok, I put the snorkel kit back on the truck and routed the filter up high in front of the right rear wheel.I also changed the filter to a larger K&N and I think the filter will stay drier now that it is higher up, away from spray off the tire. The next step is to get rid of the corrugated snorkle tube and use some
smooth tube of some kind. With the 8lb spring truck made 446hp and 464tq before putting the snorkle back on.If I can just keep the filter dry and the maf from getting contaiminated I think I will enjoy the STS kit.

First week i had my STS on, i went out of town for a job and when i got back my filter was soaked cause of the water dripping out of the bed and the gap from the Cab/Bed..
Bout 5 minutes with some snips and a drill....

Never had a problem with water! And ive been in some down pours!!

No its not pretty but it does the job just fine.

LOL, I still run my "small" STS filter, seams to support the engine o.k., even at the track..

I did make something that looks alittle like nonnieselman's.......

i had the same problem accept mine was sucking up rain water and drowning out the motor in huge gulps...had to drill a very small hole in the bottom of my intercooler for a drain...got rid of the kit since it just wasnt good for my truck or the kit for that matter...dont get me wrong..sts is a good kit...it just wasnt right for my daily driver in the enviroment that i work in...picked up a radix and now to a front mount turbo
