Positive Displacement Blower Options

What are the positive displacement blower options available out there today; such as MP112, TVS1900, TVS2300, Kenne Belle, etc? A quick list would be great. There seems to be many options available these days, and the sticky hasn't been updated in more than 3 years.

I'm on the fence between one of these or a turbo for my '01 Silverado. Leaning towards turbo right now, but the instant torque of a blower is tempting.

Thanks!

TVS 2300 if you want to go big, or run low boost and be a sleeper. 8-10lbs should get you to the 500rwhp range.

Atomic 04-18-2012 02:43 PM

You need to be specific about your goals...

If you only want 8-10lbs a tvs1900 will be better and more responsive than the 2300.

Ferocity02 04-18-2012 03:36 PM

My goal is a list of PD blowers out there that will bolt onto a cathedral or rectangular port LSx engine. That way I can research my options on here and ls1tech and not waste your guys' time ;)

Atomic 04-18-2012 04:45 PM

Wheres the fun in that?

Magnacharger:
old:
mp112
mp122
new:
tvs1900
tvs2300 (front and jackshaft drive versions)

whipple:
2.3L
2.9L

KB:
2.3L
2.9L I know at least one person has done this but it was a ton of work since the blower is meant for a camaro.

eldelbrock has their tvs2300 look alike, along with slp

Vortech also offers a PD blower, it appears very similar to a whipple unit.

Roush had their TVS1900 GM truck kits briefly.

If you're on a budget, I would go MP112. If you are patient, I bet you could pick one up for $2500 (versus $4000 for a used TVS1900). With the $1500 you save you can buy blower cam ($700 total), China stainless LT's ($500), and tune ($300) and run circles around the TVS1900.

TXBlownTBSS 04-18-2012 09:15 PM

Roush, junk, period. Pound for pound the 2300 puts down more power, will have lower IAT's and be more driveable. I'm saying this from experience having gone from a TVS 1900 @ 5 lbs, to 7, 10, 12, then the 2300 from 14 to 17lbs. Go with a 2300. You will have room to grow. As far as a 1900 being more "responsive," I beg to differ.

I beg to differ with you too. How can you actually say the roush is junk?? Where are your facts on this??

smokeshow 04-19-2012 05:46 AM

For a 5.3, the 1900 will be more responsive for low boost. As for the Roush blowers being junk, I'd say Tim's truck running mid 11s with one negates that statement all together. Not to mention, different boost levels makes comparing the two blowers a waste of time. Don't be brash; it isn't well-accepted in these parts.

1slow01Z71 04-19-2012 07:15 AM

Hmm, let's think about this rationally. The roush blower and maggy use the same eaton rotors group, so if the roush sucks then we can postulate that the maggy sucks too since they're in essence the same blower.

I would like to see some sort of comparison about responsiveness between the 1900 and the 2300. Personally I don't know how you could tell one is more responsive than the other since these blowers have an inherently ridiculous amount of low end tq.

TXBlownTBSS 04-19-2012 07:23 AM

Where can you get warranty work done on them? Ford won't let Roush touch those blowers anymore or else they'll lose their deal with ford. Roush can't afford that. I've seen a few
Roush blowers on trucks and theyre noisy. How about doing a pulley swap? Save yourself the hassle and just get a Magnuson. As far as 1900 being more responsive? Where is your facts on that? I've had both 1900 and 2300 and the 2300 is far more responsive. You can't compare the 1900 and 2300 with boost. Compare them to blower rpm. A 1900 with an overdriven crank and a 2.7 will run hotter and less efficient than the 2300 with the same pulley setup. This wasn't meant to turn into a pissing match.

Yes exactley its not a pissing match, But your statement is way off and incorrect and it doesnt matter as they arent around anymore to buy anyway.

But as far as warranty work goes, that is a non issue, IT IS AN EATON TVS SERIES ROTOR CASE !! What warranty work would you need???

And i never say mine is better, but my truck runs with or better than similair maggie setups. Am i a maggie hater, hell no i like em all and wish i had a 2300.

My blower is quiet. I wish it whined more. And actually the lower tub on my kit is better than the maggie unit as it has more room for the air to be cooled before its in the cylinders. But I could care less as it works awesome for me.

I had my kit machined to accept maggie pullies so no biggie there either.

So think what you want :loco:

Rant done.

OP I do suggest like others have said if you have the budget and would like a great performing setup that will also grow with you than a 2300 would be what i would buy, But a 1900 will do you just the same and be a little less money.Either one will put the largest smile on your face youve ever had !!!!

And as far a heat from the 1900 to the 2300, sure it might look better on paper but in the REAL world we dont all do back to back to back 1/4 mile runs or need to squeeze every * of timing we can, 95% of us want a good reliable power adder that will run great and not just max effort . Just want to be able to beat the mustang or camaro or vette next to us haha!
