the reason for the mod is two fold...
my original intent was to get cooler air to the head unit which compresses the air, which in turn heats the air as well...the cooler the air is going in...the cooler it should be en route to the FMIC...hopefully reducing heat soak...
at the track I can even remove the headlight for more cool air...
with the D1, comes the second and currently, more important reason...you can only fit so big a filter in the original location, and I had about the biggest you could fit and that was by utilizing a 45 degree elbow...
well, the D1 is sucking that elbow shut @ wot...the filter has now become a restriction again...as the original k&n had become early on...
this mod should accomplish the desire for cooler air and eliminate any airflow restriction issues...

I'll try to post up some more pics tomorrow...the one above is the one the fabricator sent me from his phone this afternoon...
he also incorporated a support bracket onto the air tube that utilizes one of the ProCharger bracket bolts...

that looks like a pretty tight bend there. but i guess it probably doesn't matter to much seeing as its preboost. was there just a filter off the SC before?

each bend in an intake tube is generally viewed as the equivalent of adding a foot of tubing...
when the only option is hot air from over the header in an area too small for an adequate size filter...???...whaddayado?
EPP has done similar to this on several builds of theirs...all cars...

The air cleaner is a big problem and your set up looks like it should improve on it.
I would think that the aluminum tube would absorb underhood heat and transfere it to the incoming charge though. Plastic would be more neutral for heat transfere but it's tuff to find the correct shape. Keep us posted on the IAT's.

Yeah...I am going to look at wrapping the tube with something to reflect radiant heat...mainly from the alternator and ProCharger head unit...I am going to do something with that damn stock radiator hose as well...going to try and 90° off the radiator...
