Default new to the FI world

Hello, everyone. I'm Eric, been on this site for what feels like forever and I've learned so much.. This place started my interest in modifying trucks/cars to make more power. Anyways, I havn't messed with any FI applications so I figured what better way to learn than to do my own truck. I'm not looking to make it a racetruck by any means, it's my DD, and that'd render it useless... I do pull a car trailer with a car on it everyonce and a while, and I do a ton of city driving. I want to go turbo due to my own beliefs of effeciency. I've picked up a turbo book and it's loaded with info. BUT, I'm having trouble picking a turbo with the correct A/R, and trim.. I need to be able to find my density ratio for a 1.54 pressure ratio. If anyone has a link to an online density ratio with aftercooling chart, I would greatly appreaciate it. Also, do any of you guys know which turbo rated at 450-500 hp has a really good compressor map for the 5.3? planning on running @ 8lbs

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Im surprised you even need to ask these questions with all the turbo builds going on! Depending on your future plans a 66mm-72mm would be perfect. Wouldnt go any smaller then a .81AR exhaust housing or it might choke up your top end.

Im sure plenty more people will chim in for ya

OH and PS, dont PLAN on a certain PSI, plan on a HP/TQ then adjust the boost to reach that goal.

Guess depends on your definition of "race truck".

Which book are you using? MP70 should be a great turbo for your goals. Maybe even a little smaller if all you plan on is 500hp.

It's just one of those performance how-to's. Chocked full of cool **** all about turbos. here's a link
Amazon.com: Turbo: Real-World High-Performance Turbocharger Systems (S-A Design) (9781932494297): Jay K. Miller: Books
I was thinking a small one would suffice, low RPM spool would be awesome.
This truck is my baby, waxed once a month, oil changed every 2500. I don't care about the aw-effect, I just want it to be completely reliable

I do want to do a leak down or compression test on her becasue afterall, she does have 110K on the clock.

What experience do you have with the MP70?

I haven't run the MP70 personally, but know many who have and its a healthy little turbo. Definitely enough for your goals and will spool nicely. 500 at the wheels will be very reliable with a solid tune.

Im running the mp70 and it spools crazy fast and makes good power even though im only on 7psi. Basically a stock 2011 5.3L and making 422rwhp. Gonna bump it up to 10 soon and see what that does.

what size housing are you using? what RPM do you start to see full boost under WOT?
