I would think a 90hp APU would be over-kill for what I'm thinking of. It supposedly takes 30-45hp to spin a turbo on a typical FI set-up. Remove the mass of the turbine and leave just the compressor side and I'd assume (without doing any math) that 20hp APU could easily do the job of spinning the compressor needed to generate enough cfm. They do make APU's that produce those low of numbers. Bout 2/3rds the size of a 4L60e.

Am i way off base or isnt this essentially what F1 is doing now (KERS)? The units weigh ~80lbs and generate power for storage on braking for micro burst use around the track...

I skipped pages 2-4 so excuse me....but Anyone checked the price of a good used Aircraft APU lately? there are no reasonable aircraft parts. Why not just install a turbo without plumbing the turbine to the exhaust and just rig a burner can to it...turbine that is. Cheaper, smaller. It's just too much trouble, and would need to be running all the time
