My 1989 C1500 RCSB SS Bed Twin Turbo 5.3
Thought I would share my build over here for the ones that do not get on ls1tech often. :)
Anyways, should have her up and running very soon. Here's the scoop! 1989 C1500, Regular Cab SWB, StepSide bed. Junkyard 5.3, TR224 Camshaft, Dual Springs, Pushrods, TH350 Trans, 10" 3200 Converter, Stock 3.08 Gears W/Welded Gears :), 80lb Seimen Deka's, Aeromotive 340 pump, Stainless Lines, C6 Vette Flipped Manifolds, Custom Front Mount Design (By me), Twin CX GT35 T4 Turbo's, 2.5" Hot Side, 3" Downpipes, AEM Wideband, HPTuned by me (3 Bar OLSD), Running on E85. Suspension, McGaughreys 4/6 Drop with shocks. My goal is to leave the outside stock as can be, lightly sanded and then satin cleared to keep that old look. Thin whitewalls on stock steelies. I have some cool trick ideas to keep it farmed out. Where the turbos barely poke thru the hood I will be using a 1 gallon metal vegetable can (yes, corn/tomatoe sticker still on can) cut in half and welded to the hood to provide a cooling duct to the turbos. Shovel handle will be attached to the B&M Shifter to shovel thru the gears lol. And of coarse a bail of hay in the back. Rowdy, raw and plain nasty! Gonna be a tire frying monster lol. Now for the build pics! |

Looks like its gonna be a fun project. Would you mind explaining your approach to bracing them to me? How far do you plan to push it boost wise?
No problem at all. On the C6 Manifolds they have some sweet flanges that come off the manifolds that the original heat shield is held on by (10mm nuts, underside which is flipped up). I used a couple of strips of angle to bolt them to the manifold and welded to the bottom of the hot side's just for extra support. I have built many turbo vehicles and this is the only actual one I have braced, never have had an issues with any of them "snaping after a week". Hopefully I will have it breathing by next weekend. :) Well, depending on how it handles e85, I'm shooting for 15psi or so. On my blazer I ran a single on3 76mm, 60lb injectors, 340 pump and 255 pump but ran out of injector at 12psi @ 16 deg. Was seeing 102% duty cycle which I believe it was laying down 550 or so at the tires thru the 4l60. Hoping these 80lbers will give it enough to feed 15psi. |
I didn't assume anything...in fact I asked first before making a joke. If you notice the "lol" at the end, that implies humor.
I asked because there's no visible bracing in any of your pics. I may not know everything....but I've built more than my fair share of turbo and supercharged vehicles over the years and I wrench on some 4000+ HP Pro Turbo cars....I know a few things. |

Cool, I have a pretty good mental image of what you did. Do you have a pics of how it's braced? I just always like to see different ideas to feed my imagination when I do a future turbo build. |
very nice indeed

 I love the build man. Keep us posted!

i'm more curious as to why you didn't want an intercooler for a planned 15psi

I thought about intercooling but I am trying to make those turbo's spool as fast as I can. From my previous builds I have noticed the less charge pipe the quicker it spools. :) Annnnd I will be running the good old corn sauce e85. Good stuff |
nice...just spray some meth if it gets to hot at that much boost
|
Love me some C6 manifolds. Love the layout(would love it more with an intercooler haha)!!!
Looks like it'll surprise EVERYONE, especially, if you leave it "i'm an axe murderer red" :) |

Keep it up man, again, very cool. ***UPDATE*** Update for you guys! Got a couple more things done tonight. Wanted to show you guys a really sweet mounted point for the tac module on these trucks. Well, I went with DBW setup due to the PCM and Harness I had laying around. The factory 1989 cruise control module is mounted next to the brake booster on the firewall. As I was trying to figure out a good spot to drill and tap some holes to mount the TAC module, I happen to notice the bolt pattern/spacing looked very close to the TAC modules bolt pattern. Guess what…. EXACT same bolt spacing and all, freekin bolted right up haha. Anyways, couple more teaser pics for your guys… Tac Module and PCM location Attachment 113377 Look at the match up haha Attachment 113378 Didn't cheap on on this one with the turbo feeds.. AN lines suck to make BTW Attachment 113379 Attachment 113380 80lbers spaced out (tall versions) Attachment 113381 F-Body Radiator in (Just gotta slide the fans on and paint the brackets) Attachment 113382 Attachment 113383 Attachment 113384 And downpipes are all wrapped up (Yes I only used zip ties to hold the wrap in place as I thought I had 3" clamps, but didn't_ Attachment 113385 |
Badass build man, definitely post up a vid of the first startup!

UPDATE, well I got a lot accomplished for the day so far, not much more before I can start her up. I took a break from this 103 deg texas heat to show you guys what I made for the farm truck... :) Shovel Shifter is now completed and I'll tell you this, it feels rowdy having your hand waaaaaaay up on the shifter lol!! I think it kicks ass! Attachment 113290 Attachment 113291 Attachment 113292 And of coarse after I burned some wood to give it a nice touch lol Attachment 113293 |

If I ever build a rat rod, im stealing your shovel handle shifter idea!
