Maximize mpg

What set up would maximize mpg for a ecsb z71 a small turbo kit 5-7 psi tuned for mpg or ported heads and a small cam tuned for mpg
Thanks

Neither... both setups will just make you grin and push the skinny peddle harder.

Out of those two options, I'd say a beater is your best bet.

A full size truck, forced induction, and good gas mileage. Those things don't tend to go together too well.

I'm all for forced induction or ported heads and a cam, but don't do it for gas mileage gains as you'll be grossly unsatisfied. Do it for the power increase and enjoy.

Well i love driving my truck and right now it gets 15 mpg and if I could do either of the two and get 19 or 20 mpg I would be extremely happy

Its not going to happen. Forget the truck if you want 20 mpg and power. If you go the turbo route, you may be able to get just a tad better on the highway but your overall average will be worse. You can nit pick either option to death but the real world reality of it is that neither are going to get you 20mpg. I have ran setups NA and FI as well as different FI setups and that is just the way it is.

Also as others have already stated, you will push the go pedal more because its fun.

I gave up along time ago and got a DD, so I can do what I want with my truck and get 35-40mpg on my way to work.

If you drive a heads/cam motor easy and compare it to a supercharged stock motor easily driven, the supercharged motor will get better mpg. Now, I'm assuming your heads/cam setup has a big enough cam to give you a good power increase. Sure, with a tiny cam, you might be able to mpg decently. You won't get near the power vs an f/i setup though. In most cases, the power adder is just along for the ride if you don't use it. My supercharged truck did 550 at the wheels and would get 15 mpg if driven sanely. A heads/cam truck with 150 hp less won't do that.

ran the crap out of mine before and after turbo and get better mpg with it. its a lot harder not getting on it w/ turbo tho. small turbo gets my vote, plus turbo will make more power.

Charcoldvowtie claimed he got a 4mpg gain with his sts system on his 4.8 ecsb.
