Magnacharger or Whipple?
#1
I did a quick search but came up short. I am looking into adding a supercharger to my truck. I have compared the stats on their respective sites but would like an unbiased opinion.
Which SC should I go with for my truck?
A couple facts:
2000 Chevy Silverado
4.8L v8
short tube headers, cold air intake, Hypertech (soon to be Nelson) tune.
Magnacharger claims 63-125% power increase. I am aware it will be much closer to 63 if not just under...
Includes an innercooler.
Has a 3yr warranty.
Costs $5,150
Whipple claims up to 50% power increase, but does not give a low ball figure.
Innercooler at an extra charge.
Has a 1yr warranty
Costs $3,950
Does anyone here have experience with these SC's? If so, could you please give your opinion on their performance. I would apperciate any input.
Thanks,
Jake

Just put a RAdix on my. LOVE it. It also has a tune designed for it, new fuel pump, and bigger fuel injectors. IT IS A COMPLETE kit. I like it because I dont have to worry about it. it is well engineered and setup correctly.

Whipple does not have a intercooler yet, and a buddy on mine has one and has talked to whipple and they expressed no intrest in making one. As far as what charger? Thats all up to you man, the radix will put out some good numbers for you. And being that you have a 4.8 you will get a decent amount of boost out of it. Dont worry there will be many others that will chime in..

I own two Whippled 5.3's.
Don't buy a Whipple. Just don't. Don't. Don't bother. No. Don't. Don't do it. No. Buy the Radix. Yes. Why? They're into performance. Whipple isn't. Whipple doesn't care about you after the sale. Radix pulley's are easy to purchase. Whipple is a PIA to deal with. Radix has intercoolers. Whipple doesn't. Spend the extra $ for the intercooled Radix. If you think you don't need it; you're wrong. You'll want it. I do. Two of them. Polished. Polished Radix blowers sitting nicely in the center of the motors with intercoolers and belts which wrap all the way around the (available) smaller pulleys; are it. Do it. Polished, intercooled Radix.
They both produce great power and are both more reliable and efficient than most people would believe but at the end of the day, you'll have no remorse from having installed the Magnuson. With a Whipple you'll be "out there, on your own" trying to upgrade it. Custom intercoolers. Ditching the craptronics. Adding larger injectors. Begging the company to sell you a smaller pulley...story of my build...
BTW you want LT's with your blower.

With out getting into the power capacity issue.
The Radix is complete. Ones its installed you will NEVER have any problems.
The Whipple and STS however will require some tuning to get it up to par that's why they are cheaper. So you cant use the purchase cost as a determining factor, but rather the cost of ownership, which will be about the same on all three units once the Whipple or STS are tuned up to the standards of the Radix.
