l92 heads and boost??? are 317's better?

say if i was to go with a stock l92 heads on my 408ci (-22cc pistons and ls9 gaskets) what kinda boost could i run before they start trying to lift?
i have 317's not and i was told you can't run the boost on the l92 that you can with a 317's because of the l92 deck being thinner than the already thin 317's??

i would like to make as much power as possible but not pushing water every time...lol

My cousin is doing 14psi with a Maggie and a 100 shot with those heads. We plan on doing 15-20 with a TT setup but I might go with LS9 heads as they are made of a better material.

the main thing is... are the l92's as-cast heads worth the money or should i stick with my 317's untill i can afford a head such as the trick-flo 235cc?

My cousins are as cast with just some dual springs and he runs consistent 10.3's. We are hoping to do better so a P&P is on order although not absolutely necessary since you are shoving the air in under pressure.:D

My shop just wanted to do a pocket port and call it a day but I figured I might as well get them Stage 2. The intake side flows good but the exhaust side leaves a lot on the table.

Are the L92's indeede thiner? Has anyone actually measured one? I saw one down at the stealership the other day, and it looked to be similar thickness to the 317.... Yes I wen't mid 9's with 317's but they flow withen 3 cfm of the trick flow 220's I have sitting here... I doubt you will come anywhere close to the same power per lb of boost with a stock unported 317. The L92's, on that 408, 91mm will make way more power at lower boost than the stock 317's, and probably even ported 317's...

might be a stupid question but what kind of CR would L92 heads yield on an LQ4?

Not really much of a change over stock, depending on gaskets used. The combustion chambers are very close in cc’s stock for stock at basically 70cc vs 71cc.
