I have been a RAT motor guy since my 68 SS396 Camaro. I just like'em...not sure what else to say about that.
...but since i dont plan on tearing apart the bottom end just yet (maybe later) I probably wont......probably
. Compression goes up from 9.1:1 to 10:1....so that is another reason not to boost without a forged bottom end i guess. Another reason is i wont be able to get the boost i want without going turbo as all the S/C 8.1L company have went the way of the Dodo.

I'm always a fan of building for overkill. I know what I like/ want. I research. Save up. Buy the good stuff. I like to do things once. I'm blown away that some will not use a credit card. Good for you.
Oh yeah. Are heads in the deals. Do any co.'s make a 4v head for your appl.? I know @ 1 time there was, but that may've been only for older BB's. Wasn't cheap either. Good luck Jimmie.

Please understand I'm not bashing Big Blocks bro. Enough on that, let's get down to your build. If u needed forged goodies, wouldn't pistons & rods/ ARP rod bolts be enuff? Isn't a BB crank like a 4L80E? bulletproof?

My bad. I just checked them out. Saw the heads are incl. That Cool Gap manifold is S-W-E-E-T. I read they're the only maker of modded 8.1 head.

I know you've put some time & $ makin that Whipple work. It sucks when parts are hard to come by. I remember tryin to find some, IIRC, aftermarket stuff for a 91 S10. Parts bumped up to 1990 & started again in 1992. Huh? It frustrated me. Oh, you've got the econo version not the higher trim S10? sorry. Still wish I had kept that truck. By now, the Iron Duke would be out. In w/ a SB & a 6spd.
Oh well.

Actually, I was just talking to Stock48 this morning about building a turbo for a 8.1. He's looking to buy a new truck (he sold his Dmax), and was thinking of buying an 8.1 if he could find a good deal on one...

. I think I am just wanting to do something different at this point. I know the numbers are not any better than where I am now, but it will be a much safer ride as far as motor preservation...and at the end of the day I dont really want a race truck, i just want a reliable truck to to take to the track, the grocery store, and the mountains. The stainless Works long tubes are $729 so yes, they are a little pricey on top of the Raylar kit. I dont know...I keep going backk and forth, and back and forth. Maybe i will want to add a power adder on top of the kit down the road...then I would be in the 12's for sure.............i hate decisions. I am selling everything!

I just think if you went thru all of that effort and expense and then ran in the 14's you would be pissed. You already know I'm gettin' a set of tires and your gonna have your hands full with my stock n/a 6.0 as it is. No S/C, no cam, no headers, no laptop on the center console, no worries.

Your probably right about being pissed though...I guess I am just thinking about the, "Damn thats a cool looking setup" factor. Plus a nice set of Aluminum heads on the 496 would be bad ***!!! Then who knows......New heads, new cam, new intake, headers, new TB,....i might still break 13's with no F/I. I could still always throw a turbo on there later. Damn, i need to go to bed......all my opinions will change again tomorrow.

good luck with 13's NA. my tahoe does 14.0 at 95 with the 502 ramjet. 510/580 crank. You're gonna be in the same ballpark and probably heavier than the 5600 I had that thing up to.
I'd pick up the heads and intake from them and go with a milder boost cam....
