Intercooler install
#1
I have the vortech non intercooled supercharger on my 4.8. Im running 11psi and Im tired of losing soo much power in the summer cause its so damn hot in Houston.
So I bought the CXRacing front mount 27”x12”x3” intercooler because Im to cheap to pay 2k for the vortech one and it seems a lot of people on here use them for their turbos. Plus with this size it should mount with no cutting.

Here’s what Im thinking. After I get it mounted I could use PVC pipe to mock up the exact specs and take it to an exhaust shop to get the pipe and make the bends I want. Do yall think this is a good idea or should I buy the piping from CX racing and try and make it work?
What type of gains should I expect? And any tips on the install/mounting? Do you suggest any kind of wrapping for the the piping?
Also for the Vortech im using a Volant intake that goes across the fan shroud to the supercharger. Is this necessary once the intercooler is installed or should I do what the prochargers do and put the cone directly into the supercharger?
Thanks guys.

You could also go to Lowes or Home Depot and get their 3" flexible tubing to do your mock up. Take each piece and add clear epoxy to the bends to keep from distorting it and have the shop make you the pieces you need from that template. Since it is nearly impossible to have just one pipe made and also be able to install it, you will probably need a few pieces for both the "in" and the "out" at the intercooler. Just a thought!

Just buy a 3" universal piping kit from CXRacing with a few 90's, 45's, straights and couplers/clamps and throw in a couple 90 degree silicone elbows and go for it. You can cut the piping easily with a chop saw and knock the whole thing out in half a day tops. I've done a half a dozen Procharger systems this way. You just need to make a drawing of where you think the pipes will go and place an order. Easy peazy...
If you can, keep using the volant. It will help keep your AIT down.
