Default Ice in the reservoir

So I am going to install my oversized reservoir this coming weekend and see what effects having about another gallon and a half will have on my IATs. Also want to throw some ice in there too and see what happens, but I have never done that before. Whats the best method, just dump some ice in the reservoir and forget about it? Do i need to worry about ice getting in the line and blocking flow? I know it would melt and not block flow long, just not sure what the best way of adding ice would be.

What about Blue ice that you put in your lunch box?

I just put ice in the reservoir after draining some heated water from the system via a flush valve that I added to a lower coolant line. Then I allow the chilled water to circulate a min. or two before staging.

I did the same thing. I used the larger Vortech reservoir and drained quite a bit of the coolant out before a run. I'd top with ice, then toggle off the intercooler pump so it didn't waste the icy water until I was in the staging lanes. It worked quite well. Just don't forget to refill with some antifreeze afterwards.

Isn't there some pain-in-the-*** filling procedure for your (Whippled 496) system? I mean, if you let some water out, won't you have to go through it all again to get the air out?
On another note, I gave up on my refrigerated water cooler design. I am too lazy to figure out how to shut the compressor off at a certain (high) rpm like the PCM does, when operating in water cooler mode.

With a bigger reservoir, you wouldnt need to let so much water out as to let air into the system. With a 1 gallon or larger reservoir, should be pretty easy to let enough water out, add ice,and air still wouldnt get in. Thats why you have the inlet to the reservoir up high on the tank and the outlet on the bottom of the tank. I have been racking my brain to come up with a "cooling" type reservoir but not sure the best method. even if you had a mini freezer (1 cu.ft.) or so that you could plug into an inverter and keep your reservoir on the inside of it. Anyway.........back to the ice. I will get the bigger reservoir on this weekend and see what difference it makes.

Why couldn't you take a cylendar and coil some copper tube or aluminum tube and make several coils in side the cylendar so it can help cool the fluid but make it big enough you can put some dry ice or any thing of that sort to help rapidly cool the fluid
