How much boost can a 5.3 handle?

I'd say you'll be good for around 35-40 psi... just watch your timing, and keep it rich
seriously, run what your comfortable with, tune it up safe, and watch the WB like a hawk if you think youre pushing the limits at all... I'd say a RELIABLE number is somewhere close to 10 if setup properly. I kept my stock high mile 5.3 below 8...

94 lbs is max for the first 3 seconds of a run! you have to run negative timming and get some spark plugs from a desiel to make this combo work though.
I am running 7 psi daily driving on my 6.0 and i like it alot. Prolly wouldn't go over 10 on a dd and make sure you keep a eye on kr and a/f. Tune means a bunch!

Asking how much boost you can run on a stock motor is pretty much like asking "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"
There is no defined answer to a question like. My answer is ALWAYS, "It depends..."
