Default How much belt slip in reality....

Hey Guys,

I'm wondering how much belt slip Prochargers and other blowers actually get? Such as TVS 2300's but, especially Prochargers like their D1SC's or their F-Series blowers. Guys always talk about belt slip it the #1 issue why they go turbo so they get rid of the belt.

Thanks Guys!

On my Vortec I ran the 2.86 pulley and was at a solid 15lbs of boost on a 6 rib setup. I had no belt slip whatsoever. I since have switched pulleys and am now at 10lbs. Using Gates belts.

I never had any belt slip problems with a 2.8 pulley on my MP112. Got me to mid 11's with a 3 year old belt....

Main issue is over time the belt will stretch. So will need to be replaced fairly often. And need to make sure you have the right size belt installed

like others said, it's a combination of the condition/size of the belt, the size of the pulleys (which affects how much the belt wraps around the pulley), the width of the pulleys, etc.

i was running at 8.5psi on a 6-rib with a 3.3 on my 2300 and no slip. then i used that belt for a short time on a 2.9 pulley and started slipping at about 4000ish. got a 1/2" shorter belt & now i ain't seen any signs of slipping, and that's at 11ish psi

as stated above, it just really depends on the combination of pulleys and belt.

"Man I bolted on this new d1sc kit on my truck and bolted on a 3.4" pulley so I could make max power. This procharger sucks, I'm going turbo"

yeah... like when i can eventually build my 416, i'm gonna need an 8- (or probably 10-) rib setup with a giant tensioner to be able to run a 3" pulley with a cog overdrive on the back and not slip.

Since we are on the subject of belt slip. When choosing a belt, how tight is too tight? or is there such a thing? with my belt the tensioner is all the way tight and does move a tad with rpm and belt stretch.

I have had them as tight as I can get them, as long as they can actually move like they are supposed to.
