I always feel dumb posting here.. Im a diesel guy, im trying to learn about this gas stuff more. What makes trick's stage one 70mm turbo kit differnt then what im trying to achieve? Or is it the same and my truck is just to heave for that size of turbo? And I have a plamsa cam at the shop I used to cut my head flange and t-4 mount and using schedule tubing to build the rest. It will look just like kb's or tricks old style mount.

I wouldn't feel dumb. You could go with just what you have and it will probably make boost, and some additional power, but it would be far from optimal and you will end up changing a lot of stuff to realize the true potential of a turbo. That will be frustrating and more expensive in the long run. If the motor breathes well that turbo will choke it down unless your going to run low boost, but that would defeat the purpose of a turbo IMHO. I tried a small 72mm turbo for quick boost on my 6.2, but I took it off almost immediately when it just stopped making power at 7lbs of boost. It spooled instantly, but would make boost at cruising speed 75mph and killed fuel mileage.

I would stay the course and turbo the thing. You'll almost certainly make more power than a cam swap.

How many people have you seen talk about needing to upgrade the fuel system for a cam swap? Not many because they don't make anywhere near the power a turbo will. Plus they have drive ability trade offs.

If all you have to work with is what you have and you can't wait, then just go for it and make upgrades/ corrections as needed. Don't get discouraged, all performance upgrades take time/ trial and error to sort out.

My truck still needs a fuel pump, a cam, a built transmission, a better tune, and a bunch of other stuff. In the mean time I just get to beat the brakes off almost any truck I come across, and most so called sports cars too.

How much boost can I safely run with a good tune and injectors on my truck? The duramax I'm working on hit 37lbs today. The fun stopped when I did a boosted launch around 17lbs and broke a tie rod lol I wish I could build that much boost lol

I'm not sure how much you'll be able to run without injectors or pump. You'll have to put it together and start from there. Upgrade as necessary from there.

Okay well I will go with injectors and a pump before I have it tuned. You think a 255 pump will do?

Redcycle13 is right , stay your course .
Other members are right also , like said you need larger injectors , 60# like atomic said and don't waste time /money on a pump smaller than a 400 walbro unless you want to do twin intank 255s.

These LS motors will handle the boost , with proper tune and fuel system 20-22 PSI is max on stock long block , this is like haveing 50 psi on a dmax just so you can relate.

I've broke a lot of tie rods on my dmax , I got tired of the expense of trying to make it fast , it can be done with DEEP pockets ,much easier to go fast with an LS engine with forced induction.

Your truck with supporting fuel system , larger turbo , shift kit will be fun @10psi , then it starts to get better from there on out
