High intake temps, whats too high ?

I'm running a rearmount on my truck at 10 psi with no intercooler yet. The intake temps go from 111F to 171F in a little over 10sec at wot with ambient temps in the mid 70s. Does this sound normal ? What temps should I get concerned at ? I'm using e85 and timing is 15* then tapers down above 150F.

Sounds normal for no intercooler. With e85 you should be fine as long as it starts to taper down like you said.

Your running 10psi on a stock internal motor? How is that working?

Oh yea and i think on sts website their Turbo kits run around 110* without intercooler on like 6-7 psi

You say that like it something new lol. These motors will take 20 psi with heads studs and ls9 gaskets without a problem. Just gotta make sure the tune is spot on

When i had my STS i had put it on in the summer i think.. Anyway i ran it without the Intercooler for about 2 days.. 6psi i saw 180* IAT and cruising i saw it hover at 125-130 which doesnt make for much power in Vacuum.

Put the intercooler on and they were ambient and only got up to 130ish after a pull.

The cooler you can keep it the safer it is. Im not sure what "limit" you should stop at.

20psi is the new 10psi..

Ok how long are these 10psi-20psi stock motors holding up for? Because 20-30k doesnt do justice. What im trying to get at is what type of psi do run to basically not affect engine life like 180k-240k miles or is that kind of engine life out of the question at any boost

nonnieselman 05-23-2012 10:22 AM

IF your goin to be running 20psi all the time i dont think its goin to like it..

but theres quite a few pushing it and no ill effects yet.
Stock48, smokeshow, foose04 and a couple more are doin the 20psi thing.
Most these guys run 20# at the track and turn it down for DD.

I wouldn't expect 200k out of a stock engine at 20psi, as it's a lot to ask, but I am pretty sure nobody has tried that yet.
