That's exactly what I was going to say. The thinner factory castings bow/bend in between the bolts with higher cylinder pressures. Aftermarket heads like AFR's have a thicker deck that aims to prevent this from happening.

i had ported 317 on iron block...402...ran 20-24 psi on the little incons...740+rwhp...920rwtq...no head lift issues with the arp studs and mls gaskets. Check that tq wrecnh..my OLD snap on was off 10lb/ft....

Yeah but you guys are using studs and not bolts. No way will that ever happen with just head bolts.
Are these people you speak of over torquing their studs too? That seems to help from what I've read.
