But I'd say, yes, we spend too much time drooling about peak numbers (myself included) and not enough time thinking about how it will be the rest of the time. That's why I love the guys at Vinci. All there stuff takes the curve getting to peak into account. That's just smart IMO.

Also, I think anyone with a Forman grill under the hood is thinking about responsiveness > peak numbers (not to start a fight with you and Blown, but as a compliment to the maggie torque design).
I wish brother!

LOL on the forman grill! I guess the thing that got me thinking about this was a test drive I took of the Acura RDX, turbo 4-banger; didn't have much lag at all. Anyway, that's what got me thinking about building a FI setup to meet a goal rather than the most hp, most whatever, know what I'm saying?

Yep. That's half the fun of an STS kit -- as strange as it sounds, there is very little lag when you use the recommended turbo. They size the turbine housing to 86 the lag "at the expense of some top end power" (although I still saw the best hp/psi I've seen in a while)

I wonder how many youngsters know what 86'd means?

I believe in an all around good combo with responsive throttle on boost as well. My turbo set up before was too laggy with the 6 speed and turbo (.96 a/r turbine housing). I am going to wrap most of the hot pipes this time and if that doesn't help enough to suit me I will be going with a ball bearing turbo or a smaller turbo. I'm not going for peak hp by any means.

On the other hand, my Radix'd 4.8 with 3.0" pulley was TOO responsive. I could not even accelerate without getting into boost it seemed like. Then all I could get out of it was 13 psi on a good day and 170+ deg intake temps with a larger Hx intercooler and lots of Meth.
As I said before the Radix is good for 8-10 psi max on a daily driver and it still be practical to drive. It seems Eaton is improving things with the inefficiencies of the blowers but I suspect that there will still be too much boost too early with the newer designs for a high boosted daily driver.
I was planning on tweaking on the bypass valve and making it not close until on into boost but didn't get the chance to play with it (or see if I could do any good) before it went boom.

I still feel that a centrifugal supercharger is probably one of the best forms of FI for a high boosted (>10 psi) daily driver. You can build the high boost but it doesn't come in as hard. A properly sized turbo system will do the same yet more efficient.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I built mine for low end Tq. Radix/6L/210~218 cam/4.10 gears/2600TC. I dont know what the max Hp/Tq numbers will be. I never even guessed. I did set a 500/500 goal but it wasnt the driving force in my part choices. I wanted off throttle Tq. I got it. Now I just play to get the numbers up. The SOTP meter is already pegged on WEEEE!!!

I built mine to be the fastest 4.8 there is. I accomplished that and now I just want something that will roast the tires at 60mph

I'm currently building just that, a setup that will give the best low end, street boost performance and fast spool. Will be a turbo with small A/R exhaust in an intercooled front mount. Not looking for big power out of it up high, just want to to pull great on the street. Not going in my truck but details will follow in a new thread shortly
