E85 conversion with Whipple?
#3
Yes I would love to convert, but I would raise my compression up to a street friendly 13-1, and set timing to around 32 degrees total.
If you read carcraft they did a story a few months back where most of the major players in the Dynomax power to the wheels compitition used E-85. Essentially you have to bump up your fuel delivery map about a 1/3rd to compensate for E-85's lower thermal qualities. It does have some benefits as in its octane ratings are around 110. So it can take alot of static compression, and alot of lead in on the timing compared to its gas sipping brother. Or you could boost the hell out of a 9.5 or 10-1 compression motor if all else being equal.
You'll need 30% bigger injectors, fuel pump, and fuel lines then what is nessacary for a comperable gas motor.
I think it would be interesting if you live in the corn belt since it is effectively race gas at the pump.
