DOD delete question
#1
Might be a stupid question but just curios, in a DOD delete would it be possible to just change out the lifter and lifter trays and leave the stock valley cover on instead of the ls3 cover? I have always swapped to the ls3 cover every time ive done it but if i could save a few bucks putting the stock valley cover on it would be great. I don't really know how the DOD even works...

Wondering this same thing myself, thinking deleting the mechanical side as well as programming shouldnt make a difference what valley cover you use.... Just disconnect the dod control connector on the back of it, would also save having to tap and plug the oil ports i would think...

Just realized i posted in the wrong section. And yes i know the 4.8 is cheaper but still it would be cheaper to just leave the stock one on. If it wasn't a customers truck i would try it but i might sometime(on my own stuff of course) slap a stock cover on and see what it does. No one else any experience?

And also the lifters itself are the most active things(and the weakest point) in the dod system. The cover itself doesn't do anything else than just activate the dod. Just leave it unplugged and a tune of course. Not sure if it would affect oil pressure though.

The reason you would need the new cover is on the underside of the non dod valley cover it has o-rings that seal off the oil ports for the dod lifters. You can use the dod cover if you drill tap and plug the oil ports for those lifters. Way easier to just put the other cover on. If you do not seal these ports it would have a massive internal oil leak and would have damn near no oil pressure.

Right but you will have oil pressure sitting against solenoids that are going to do nothing and you will have a bunch more potential for an internal leak. I have yet to run across anyone who has reused the old cover and not had oil pressure issues. Quick search on google will net you results on ls1tec that will show shops having 10-20 psi at idle then change out to new cover and oil pressure comes back. Cheap insurance at $40-50 bucks.
