Default BOV on the Supercharger

In my quest to lower IAT's even further, I ordered the 90mm Nick Williams TB, it should be here next week.

A second option and I need you turbo folks to chime in - Im thinking about putting a BOV and ditching the bypass valve. The reason is that the hot air is recirculated into the blower mixing with the colder intake air when the throttle is released. So if - lets say Im at 15lbs boost and the air temp is ambient at 70 degrees. Using a 10 degree per lb rule the discharge air is 220F (150+70). When I let off the throttle that air is recirculated back into the blower mixing with the 70 degree air. A blow off valve will vent some of that hot air back into the atmosphere. Has anyone tried this and can the turbo folks confirm that the BOV can be set such that there is no leakeage at idle. Since the Trottle Body is before the supercharger leakage would affect idle. thoughts?

On a sc you would be releasing metered air from the bov, on a turbo it it before the maf sensor preventing any problems with your tune, maybe you could do it with a 2 bar?

I have an hks bov ans is is open during idle, maybe you can look into hooking it up with a solenoid operated from a speed siginal to keep it closed during low speed idle.

Good point, I have a 2 bar setup and that I believe is what makes this possible.

If you had no leakage at idle then you would be seeing boost, in idle conditions the bypass is working the most.

How about this- Currently your bypass is pulling air right from the discharge of the blower outlet so that air is very hot. What if you set up the bypass to bypass air off of your inlet piping so that the air that is being recirculated has already passed through the intercooler?

I know this is off topic but how well is your 2 bar doing and are you using it along with a maf? My truck still needs to get tuned and was thinking about going straight 2 bar.

Relocate the MAF sensor so it is down stream of the BOV and it will not affect idle or metered air.

Pat - I can test that by disabling the bypass at idle.

Bypassing intercooled air would be interesting - I think the IAT's can definitely be lowered.

So if i was to bypass my whipple silinoid when i take off the whippletronics, and go with my bigger injectors and a tune. Where exactly should i put the BOV if i was to run one. Wasn't for sure if bypassing the silinoid would make it so the whipple would read boost all the time or what. Someone who knows more about whipples than me should help me out.

-Thanks-

the 2 bar is doing excellent - well enough that the MAF is completely gone. The fuel trims are always between 0 & -4 on any day. EFI live allows you to run with short term trim adjustments when not in boost. The auto tune feature rocks!

On my procharger setup, it has a bypass valve, but instead of recirculating it has been changed to vent to the atmosphere. Still works the same, it just doesn't put the hot air back in the intake.
