Where are you guys putting your blow off valves? Especially you STS guys. Are you putting it up by the TB, or back by the turbo? Before of after the MAF? Are you running a recirculating setup? Also while were at what kind of BOV are you using?

I've heard that with MAF metered vehicles it's best to recirculate so you don't get a rich condition after is blows off. I'm wondering if there's any merit to that theory too.

I'm using a Tial bov, it seems tobe good so far. I mounted the bov about 6 inches from the maf then the maf directly to the tb. I was told the same thing about creating a rich condition with the bov after the maf. The only thing about putting the bov in the back for a rearmount is that you would have to run a vacumme line back to it from the intake manifold.

Cool

The STS kit I have puts the TiAL BOV in the intake tube just before the MAF. The tube runs up from the frame just under the A/C condenser ( at the firewall). It takes it's vacuum lead from a T installed just before the brake booster. It has a 11# spring and is vented to the air. The TiAL BOV does not look like it is made to be adapted to recirculate.

On my truck I have the hydra boost(?) brakes so I took my vacuum lead off of the nipple for the PCV system on the passenger side of the intake manifold by the TB. The only time I see 11# vacuum on my boost gauge is when I lift completely off the gas after a hard run. FWIW I do not see a rich condition in my logs at the end of a WOT run but I rarely lift abrubtly off the throttle.

Thanks guys, so I guess there's only 2 people running BOV's on this site?

The Tial doesn't have provisions for recirculating, but it is a nice piece. I'm probably going to go with one that'll have provisions for it, so I can experiment in the future.

I have been kicking it around, but its more money and adds no performance for me now.
I know it safer and less stress on your turbo but I usually roll out of the boost as opposed to flooring it and letting off the throttle all the way.
Have you heard of anyone having any real turbine damage from running a wastegate only set up on an automatis trans?
I know a BOV must be used with a manual or severe damage will occur.

I put a Bosch bypass valve, from a Volvo on my STS, in the charge pipe before my intercooler, MAF is after the intercooler, so no problems with dumping metered air. Its only a 1" valve and I have it vented to atmosphere with a filter on it. It's a little small, but it relieves the pressure pretty good when the throttle closes. I only get one or two waste gate fluters now when I slam the butterfly shut in stead of the 8 or 9 I used to get. And it was cheap As far as damage from not running one, my turbine wheel was tore up pretty bad on the outer edge, but I don't really know if the lack of a blow off caused it , or it if was from the guy I bought this setup from maxing out the boost by running the waste gate unplugged (18 psi on a 4.8 T60-1 BTW).

Very nice gentlemen, and thanks for the pic 8ALTNG! Looks like I'll put it before the MAF and just let it vent. I know its not a performance upgrage, but you can score some BOV's pretty cheap. Plus I just can't stand the sound of compressor surge...it's like nails on a chalk board to me.

It looks as though your pipes are still coated despite the BOV being welded on. Did you order your kit with the BOV flange on it already? It appears as though it was coated after being welded on both your kits. How did you go about this?
