belt tensioner question
#11
I have the same supercharger and I get the same amount of movement put of my tensioner. Just 1 major problem. After I went with a slightly smaller pulley, its been slipping off and likes to shred the inner rib of the belt only at WOT. After its been shredded off, it runs perfectly fine with a 5 rib belt. Could it be that the smaller pulley requires a smaller belt? Sorry, I don't mean to thread jack.

I have looked for the Gates green HD belt but havent found that they make one in my size. I have a 111.5 and 111.0. I have the standard Gates and Gatorback coming in those sizes to try. My WOT will only be 5350 to 5400 rpms. It will have a 2.68:1 gear box attached to it with a carbon fiber 3 blade prop. You put enough pitch in the prop to "govern" your WOT.
This is my first time fooling around with the LS platform. We have always ran the Gen 1 smallblocks. The LS platform seems to be a lot easier to me. Although cams sure are expensive LOL. The issue with an airboat motor is we dont turn them 6500 rpms. We need torque, and a lot of it down low. I had this cam ground for max torque around 4000 rpms. Our normal cruise rpm is about 3000 rpm.
I appreciate all the info and help. I will keep you posted on the progress. Also this is my first time messing with fuel injection. I really like it. Am debating purchasing HP tuners or having someone tune it. The closest tuner I have is over 2 hours away. It would be awesome if someone could remote into my laptop and tune with my boat in the driveway at the house.

check alignment if you are shredding a rip and then going about your way. you have some flex or misalignment somewhere

This is a good point as well, although I have found this to be more common on 8 rib and larger belts.

I actually think that I have one with extremely low miles on it. I would give you a good deal. I also have an 8 rib overdrive crank pulley, 8 rib alt pulley, 3 extra wide idlers, and an 8 rib power steering pulley. I was going to sell everything as a set as it is perfect for an upgrade for the radix 112, but might be willing to seperate.

Just a quick update. I replaced the Dayco belt tensioner with a Gates and also found the bolt that holds my bottom right idler pulley was a little small and was allowing the pulley to flex upon acceleration. Took care of both items and now the belt is running smooth as silk. The tensioner is working like its supposed to instead of jumping around all over the place. Still havent tried the gates or goodyear belts yet since they havent arrived yet. I appreciate everyones help with this.
