No pipes have blown off lately. Could it be a ballance issue? I put a dial indicator on the shaft and there seems to be alot of runout, like the shaft is bent. I was running a new tune for the 1st time, and on the log I noticed the shift points were @6088RPM. They were 5500 before. Alen must have raised them. In this thin air a turbo has to spin about25% faster to produce the same boost as sea level. The 6200RPM must have crossed the line, as where 5500 was able to get by. Will a Ball bearing turbo take more RPM?

IMO, I really don't think you over spun the turbo. You said oil supply is fine. How did you check it? I assume you are using a teflon supply line. Are/were there ANY kinks in it? Even if you kinked the line and tried to straighten it out the line is trash. Are you running a restrictor? What grade oil? What temperature was the oil when you flogged it the first time... I think thats when you popped it.

ALL the pro's I talked with say a ballbearing turbo is not worth the extra money... and they are not rebuildable. Your journal bearing cartridge is rebuildable. I would also recommend getting ahold of Rick at Trick, Rick at Synergy, or maybe Jose at Forced Inductions, email them your turbo carnage, and explain to them what happened. They can also tell you how much of the turbo you have left is salvagable.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The pics are fine, it's the popups and ads that I find annoying.

I have an oil supply line like the one in your picture, no restrictor, line is in good shape, with no kinks. I unhooked the oil line, and had my wife fire up the truck for 2-3 seconds, shoots out a really good stream made a huge mess. I know there was good oil flow by all the smoke when it blew. So much smoke I couldnt drive the truck, and oil is running out the exhaughst. Im running mobil 5W-30 synthetic. I may be guilty of flogging it when it wasn't real warm, There are so many Fing people around hear I have to get it on when I can. There is seldom a break in traffic. The engine temp was about 150~160, oil was probably no more than 100 deg. Outside temps were about 15-20 deg. All that is wrong with the turbo is the shaft, and journal bearings. you can see where the compressor impeller rubbed the housing, but you can't feel it. I just thought I spun it too hard, because it was running at max boost. It would do no more, I couldn't even get 15psi until 3rd gear. Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it, J

Ballbearing are denfently rebuildable we do it all the time. I work at pte in repairs. In your case you may want to think about goin to ballbearing. They can take more heat.
