Default 4.8L forced induction?

Hey guys i was thinkin about doin this on my truck.. im not lookin to get crazy amounts of hp just enuff to do some damage (300-400 rwhp). Right now i have an airaid intake, hypertech, pacesetter lt's and a 160 stat. Would an STS be what im lookin for in that area. I have always heard good things about the sts kit. And would it be the same hp gain for me for basically 1k less for the sts then like the radix?

I have heard good things about the STS kit. I went with the radix myself because:

1: I wanted good low end torque and wasn't sure a turbo would give me that.

2: I had limited mechanical experience at the time and wanted an all inclusive kit that didn't require welding or other special skills.

3: The STS was not out yet at that time.

I have since been very pleased with the radix'es performance. If you can do so, I would suggest taking a ride (or possibly a drive) in a truck equipped with each.

For a 4.8 I think either would serve you well. If you had a 6.0 I would lean more towards the STS as the radix seems to run out of wind on the larger motor.

I have been researching the same thing....My question for the two guys that have the two different FI options is: Why did you go with it, and what do you like/not like about it?

I'm at right about 400 hp and 390 tq. , the dyno graph is in the dyno section . That was at 8# of boost I'm at 10# with a different belt. I love my radix. The kit is really complete, and easy to install. I have a t56 six speed coming which I am going to install next . But I think a cam is in the future also. I didn't notice where you are located, but if you are in or near E Tn. you can try my truck out , if you want . I can pm you the price of my radix if you are interested .

I had my STS with the 4.8, it was definetly fast. At 6psi i was neck and neck with my buddie's 04 GTO and i walked all over my friends 03 GT. The reason i went with it is that it provides lots of room to grow. If you want more power out of it just turn up the boost, no pulley change required.

If i had to do it all over again, i would still choose the STS, or possibly a front mount. But definetly a turbo.

i personally like turbos. i don't care for superchargers. you'll make more power typically with a turbo, but it will bite you if your not careful.

turbo pros
1. no parastatic loss
2. much broader power range and potential (usually)
3. easyer to intercool (compared to a roots)
4. looks and sounds bad ***

turbo cons
1. more complicated, usually means will break easyer too.
2. harder to tune correctly
3. cost more in the end (install and tuning in addtion to kit cost)
4. more suseptable to having exhaust problems (cracks, noises and leaks)
5. easy to get greedy with the boost controller. end result = tow truck ride
