Im approaching the finish line and wonderin if I should keep the maf or go sd instead.. Been scratching my head on this one and cant seem to come to a decision.. This is why i have u guys.. help me out.. Its like..wwjd...

Are you maxing the MAF?

ONLYA4.8L 01-17-2009 08:54 PM

not yet but once I get bigger injector and a bigger pump.. who knows.. Im shootin for the 500-600hp range..

Are you doing to tuning yourself? I've been in SD for over 2 years now and have no reason to go back. I'm currently using HPTuners 2 Bar SD OS

You will close, but not mandatory... On the other hand. I love 2 bar SD, so I would...

NicD will be doin my tunning...

Are you planning on running a two stage boost controller? You can tune around the maf if it's maxed out but if you want to run two stages of boost you will need to go speed density.

I did fine on the stock engine and MAF up to 12 psi boost. It was when I changed the engine with stage 2 heads and a small cam that I started to max out the MAF and injectors. With the new parts the VE really needed to be tuned and because it is hard to tune VE when you have boost I switched over to OLSD.

OLSD has presented some tuning challenges but I am slowly working my way through them and for my combination it has been a big improvement over the MAF tune. I have had a couple of OMG this is a great tune revelations and I think there might be a couple of more in it yet. :chug:

I think that it is more work, but if you are into tweaking things, I think it is definitely worth it. Tuning has just become another dimension to my performance bug. :D

is he local? I would hesitate going SD if you are not going to be tuning it and it is not absolutely necessary. I feel SD tuning requires a few "checkups" every now and then...

I would agree. I have to adjust my tune quite often due to the drastic change in climate here in the North East. Also, changes in elevation will affect your tune if you do any traveling with your truck. My TA was changed over to speed density before I started tuning myself and it ran like crap when the weather changed because it wasn't set up right. Speed density works great if your tuner knows what he is doing but you still need to check it from time to time.
