Good call on fixing it yourself, it shouldn't be too difficult. Do yourself a favor and ship that MAF back though and get a refund.

I probably should I guess. Wow, seemed like a bunch of the FI guys on here were using them too.

From the sounds of it. Your tune isnt dialed in. If your having surging issues then it seems someone didnt tune for the cam. I wonder if they even did the RAFIG or RAFIP. I say send the MAF sensor back and be on your way with HpTuners.

I also feel that your problems are only skin deep. Im willing to bet that your only have to fix a few simple things to get the idle correct. Who did the tune before?

tune was done at W2W BEFORE the new converter was installed and trans was rebuilt. It had some idle issues prior to the trans work but not this bad.

I'll send the MAF back tomorrow if the concensus is that it is not necessary.

I fixed the majority of my idle/surging problems by putting the PCV system (with a catch can) back into operation. People have the idea that the PCV valve is simply a one-way valve, but it is not. It has a tapered check and orifice, it varies the air (and fumes) entering the intake according to engine vacuum, and closes at high vacuum. Try it, you'll like it.

I 2nd the vote for SD. I have been AutoVE'ing since Christ was 11 years old.....LOL.

Now i just leave the RoadRunner in RTACS mode so it updates all the time .

Go to 7-eleven? Its AutoVE'ing
Go to the movies? Its AutoVE'ing
Go to Granddads house? Its AutoVE'ing
.....Its a disease this stupid tuning stuff is.

I like the ability to dial in fueling when in boost + some of the other goodies a COS gives you. I am MAXing my MAF as well at only 6.5lbs of boost. Send back the MAF, dial in the SD tune.

He says he's tuned vehicles with a lot more power than I have using a maf but tuning SD takes far, far too long. I agree with that. I recall attempting to adjust my VE when I switched to SD a few years back with my whipple. What a pain in the *****.
45 minutes is too long? You need a different tuner if this is his reason for not doing SD. What he's really telling you is "I don't know what SD is and am going to slap some timing on your ride and verify the PE."

RUN, don't walk, AWAY.

Idle surging has about 0% to do with SD vs. MAF and 100% to do with idle tuning (which takes longer than SD).
