Default New rear dif and gears. Check my pattern pls.

Alright guys, this is my first complete rear end rebuild. New eaton dif and a set of richmond 4.10s. Ive got my backlash right at .009. Does this pattern look good? Just looking for some opinions on my pinion depth.

I meant to post this in the chevy drivetrain forum if a mod would like to move it.

Responded on FB but I would like it further down the face and more like 0.005-0.007 backlash. Tighten up the BL a shim and it will help with the depth.

I got the backlash down to .006. Here's a few more pics with everything apart.

Can you post pictures of the teeth you coated? The coated teeth "outline" the gear pattern, IMO. It's looking pretty good though.

What size shim do you have in there right now?

Ive already got it all buttoned up. Time definitely wasn't on my side. I ended up reusing the factory pinion shim, which was .032. Made about a 30 mile drive and all seems good. I had an ever so slight whine for the first few miles, but it seemed to go away.

Did some more driving today. Everything seems great except a small whine from 55 to 60ish on acceleration.

I bet it's nothing to worry about. That pattern looks fine to me and .006" is always good. As long as you have enough preload on all the bearings and the bolts are torqued to spec and you break them in properly then they should be ready for whatever you throw at them.
