Default 4R100 or E4OD?

I have a '98 Ford E250 van with the 5.4l Triton. How do I figure out which trans I have? I know the 4R100 and E4OD are very similar, but how do you tell them apart?

easiest and quickest way to tell is the 4r100 has a bypass tube that goes between the cooler lines where they bolt onto the tranny. the 4r100 didn't come out till the 99 superduty.

Alright, I'll check it out. It's got 183K and the trans is acting up a little. I wonder which years interchange???

It does have a tube between the cooler lines, so i guess it is a 4R100.
