Id like to start a discussion on 4 Link vs Trailing arms. Since my truck as no market for suspension upgrades so I have do some design and fab work anyways.

A 4 link seams like there will be a huge amount of fabrication, measuring and design, something that Im not entirely comfortable with. A trailing arm setup is quite long and less harsh on pinion angle change. I would have to fabricate a crossmember for the front, but that seems more simplistic and I would only tack weld it and have a professional welder do it.

I realize there would be more adjustment in a 4 link if done right, but this is not going to be laid on the frame, its going to be something I can corner better in.

I think both setups require a panhard bar.

What are the experiences of those that have these setups?

 

You can purchase a 4 link ready to go, so the fab aspect is pretty much null. The trailing arms are a great option and easy. Early trucks came with them stock, hell, NASCAR uses or at least used to use that setup.

What truck are you working on that has no aftermarket support?

 

A 93 ford explorer. The rear frame is different than a ranger none of that stuff will work, and an off the shelf setup might work.

 

Moved, bummer. I was hoping to get some Input from the chevy guys because I was planning on Picking up some c10 trailing arms.

 

On an Explorer, especially one that is lowered a Truck arm Style suspension might be best.

There fairly simple and easy to build. You are correct in assuming that you will need at least a track bar to locate the rear end.

You might want to also look into a watts link to locate the rear end or a wish bone.

If you google those 2 terms you will see image's of both design's.

If you would like to explore the 4 link option I would look into a triangulated design similar to what's used on the Mustang platform . This style will give you the best performance for cornering.
