Default Track Times with the 383

My first & best run was full street trim(spare tire, speakers, tailgate up, towing package, 1/4 tank of gas) with the exceptions of the headlight mod and cut-outs open:

60'...2.127
1/8..8.487 @ 86.15 mph
1/4..13.135@105.31 mph

I spun real bad all the way through the 60' and then some and then it just hooked up and took off. This was my best run out of the 3. The other ones were a 13.3 and a 15.2 (did a smoke show and got close to hitting the wall). All runs were done on my 95% bald firestones and the stock 1600 converter. My next mod is tires! 28" slicks for sure. I even saw Flyer out at the track! I was racing him when I ran the 15.2.

I was happy with the 13.1 @ 105, the mph is what impressed me. I just need some slicks and I will for sure be in the 12s. Add an LS6 intake to that and 12.5 should be easy. I want to add a stall, but it's my daily driver and I don't want to sacrifce any gas mileage or driveability until I get done with school in a year or so.

You built a 383 and you don't want to lose mileage by getting a converter? You need one man!

It gets almost identical to the cammed 5.3, maybe 1 mile less to the gallon. If I keep my foot out of it, it usually gets about 15 mpg. Don't know how it does on the hwy yet.

Yeah, I know...IF I do get one this summer, it'll be a Yank 2600. I was gonna do it during the motor/tranny swap, but Yank said it would take a week to get it for me and I couldn't wait that long.

Yeah, the last run I ended taking off the tailgate, spare, a/c belt and letting more air out of the tires. Made a big difference but sent me all over the place! If only I'd put the tailgate down on the first run....

I must say you rmotor sounds quit nice. Nice times with a horrible 60'. I think you got 12's for sure with a little bit of traction.

Do you notice a difference with the cutouts open? Is it a big difference or a little bit? I thought about opening mine up, but I left them closed the whole time.

Thanks! Your motor sounds pretty nasty as well!

I didn't run the cut-outs closed, just open. On the old 5.3, I lost a bunch of low-end with the cut-outs open. So, I figured that maybe I could loose just enough low-end to help with the traction, but it didn't help at all. On a country road the other day I uncorked them and could tell a noticable difference especially in the mid-range and top-end. When I had my dyno-tune, the cut-outs were worth ~15rwhp/12rwtq throughout the whole chart. When I get some slicks, I'm gonna compare it. You should've opened them up! With a 408 I'm sure it be a big difference.
