Well ****, maybe I should cut some wood blocks to go between the axle and the jounce bumpers, lol.

I think I'll try cranking up the CalTracs as far as I can next time, and strap the front end as tight as it will go. New wheels and tires aren't in the budget right now, but when this set of tires wears out I was thinking about going with some smaller wheels, maybe down to an 18 or something. The setup I have right now are heavy as crap. I still like the look of the 5 spoke Titan wheels like I had on my blue truck, and I can put some 285/60R18's on there that will be close to the same diameter of the 275/55R20's that I currently have but will be a little wider.

The guys on the diesel forums are telling me that I need pitman and idler arm braces or stronger arms, etc...I don't think that's necessary yet...seems like those are more for the guys with the higher riding trucks that camber way in or toe in on launch.

Correct, keep your front end flat and you will be fine.

Also, you want it to be stiff for minimum weight transfer, but not a sudden shock (like your wood idea) becaise it will unload the tire and spin.

I know I'm 2wd xcab. But the more angle and more preload I put in my assassin bars and lowered the back of the truck(air shocks) the better my 60' got. I got down to 1.5

Yep like Richard said not necessary on the half tons , they are definitely a must on the larger heavier 3/4 ton trucks , especially with lifts and big tires .

I've broke two sets of tierods with sleeves and bent the big steering bar ( forget what it's called) on my DURAMAX , after that I knew I didn't want to do 4x4 launches in it with cranked bars / slightly lifted CV angles . One reason I went back to half tons to race

But I've NEVER had an issue suspension wise on my Z71 , launches like a dream every time with all that angry power outta the hole .

Flatten your angles , borrow some smaller tires , brake boost the **** out of it and hello 12s easy .

I have all Moog steering stuff (tie rods, pitman and idler arms) as well as a Cognito idler pivot. My 4wd launches are straight and uneventful, though I've never tried it at the track... Yet

I would definitely recommend the Cognito pitman and idler arm braces! It just helps to keep the drag link from flopping around by putting it double shear...

My launches are ridiculous smooth and cutting 1.7x like a robot, and with heavy factory 20s and 275/45. No straps but I'm slammed approx 4.5" drop up front so CV angles are quite negative, and I fully agree that helps because they flatten out upon weight transfer.how much does your truck weigh??

Oh ok you're quite a bit heavier... and probably putting down like double to triple the torque I am lol.

Do some coilovers and ditch the bouncy torsion bars!

I had some caltracs for mine but ended up just selling them because I was already launching so smooth.
Just curious, are you leaf under or over axle in back?
