Default Glide?

The trans in my truck has given me problems the last two summers the truck ran. It was redone buy the guy who built if for me originally but I hadn't run it much before pulling the motor.

My plan is if the 80e takes a crap soon to just jump to a glide. The truck will weigh around 3500 and make around 500 N/A, it is built for 350 of nitrous but I don't plan to run more then 150 for this year.

My question is will a glide slow me down since I am heavy compared to most cars the run them especially running the lower amounts of nitrous?

I am hoping that the 80e has had all it's gremlins worked out but rather keep an eye out then pass up a great deal if one comes along.

P.S. The truck will only occasionally see the street and will never go far unless it is on a trailer.

IMO that is still to much weight for a glide. Not to mention they are exp, are rare. A built 350 or 400 would be what I would put in there.

The glides are vary strong if they are built right, but its pretty much like taking off in 2 gear, id much rather go to a built th400, if you get one thats built right it will hold anything you could ever throw at it.

Casey Rance is running a th400 if that tells you the strength of what a built one can handle

400..... no way a 2 speed is going to get that pig moving. You need three gears.... at 3500 its still comparably a battleship

That is what I was thinking. My 80 is supposed to be indestructable in near stock form. It isn't breaking but was having electical problems, causing it to not shift correctly. I hope it will work just fine because I won't have the money to do anything right away.

3500#s is guess it might be closer to 3800# we will find out soon.

id go with a 400 in it. a glide is strong but your limited on your gearing, low and high. you can change low gear but its still only 1.8x:1 ratio which unless your running a 5500 stall is going to be a pig. if you were under 3000# then it may be different.

you could man up and drop a lenco in there. i hear the st1200 and cs1's arent horrible on the street and who wouldnt love rippin levers clutchless

Last time out my truck weighed 3,525 with me in it and a 4L80E. It made 449rwhp with the 4L80E and 521rwhp with the new 418ci motor. I have a 2 stage kit good to 400+ N20 hit.

I talked to 3 reputable tranny shops. All three of them told me I wasin the middle of either trans. The 400 would net me better 60's if I could keep it hooked but the glide would net me a better mph. They all felt the ET would be very close. They all also agree that as weight went down, the glide would be the better trans.

They all said I needed to stall up going with the glide.

You have to remember, the N20 is going to give you a lot of TQ to get it moving.

I know weight it my biggest factor.

I hope and pray that the 80e is ready to take a woopin because I will not have the money for any trans swap/work soon.

I will see what weight is once I get her rolling again then cross my fingers I don't have to worry about a trans right now.
