The NNBS 4.8L with 243 heads, better intake, and bigger throttle body stock is about the same power output as my older 5.3L was stock. I wouldn't even have to use my own truck as an example. My tuning experience goes well past a couple of trucks and they speak for themselves. Look around here, a 4.8L with a 3600 stall, 4.10 gear, cam, bolt on's, etc should be in the 13's even on the 20's.
Well that makes for a better argument, but let's break down what you've said about the 4.8.

The NNBS 4.8L with 243 heads, better intake, and bigger throttle body stock is about the same power output as my older 5.3L was stock.
A 4.8 with 243 heads. So I have a head that probably flows way more than what this motor will ever need and a bigger combustion chamber than the older heads. So even less compression than older 4.8s which are still less than yours. For a comparison, I have a friend who just got a deal on some 243s and put them on his nearly stock Z28. Mind you, that is more cubic inches, more compression and better flow and in slightly warmer weather lost 2 tenths and MPH stayed the same. So best case in cold weather he might have gained some MPH.

Better intake and bigger TB. Well again, if you don't need it, it doesn't help. For another car comparison, my Trans Am (w/ Lid, LS6 intake, EWP, 4000 yank, and a catback, stock manifolds and cats) ran 11.73. I installed a FAST 90 and in colder weather I ran 11.71. Again, that's another case where the engine size would have made more of a difference than a 4.8

So while I'm sure this probably has similar peak hp as an old 5.3 I'm also certain that it wouldn't have ran with one stock. This truck was running mid 16s when all it had was a K&N and the custom catback that it has now (which isn't really a good one). I think gaining 2 seconds from a cam, stall and headers isn't to bad.

Unless he has really sticky 20s on there. I can't believe with that they don't or can't spin. Is it slipping in first? It should blow the tires off even with the slightest throttle.

Here's a link to the tune, since for some reason it won't load on this site.

And a screenshot from the log for all those who don't have HPT. I'll get a good log with AFR on a simple config next weekend.

It just doesn't look much like a 3600 stall, but more like a 2600-2800. The RPM starts to flatten out at ~3000, notice the frame I stopped on is at 3188rpms. I would think a 3600 would flash past 4000.

I've heard lower gears will make a tc tighter but didn't think it would make that big difference.

It was always low. Here's a shot of the truck before the 3.23s it's a couple hundred rpm less than the current one. For reference I place the line at around the same rpm(3169) and it's at 3mph as compared to 9 mph in the 4.10 run and where it levels out is 3350. This pass was before we figured out why it wouldn't shift to 2nd sometimes so I think it was like a high 14, but the 60' was 2.2.

My 4.8 with the mods in my sig runs 13.2 in the 1/4....

The pic below is from a previous run, i believe it was an 1/8th mile track where i ran ~8.4-.5

I was cutting 2.20s with my 3.42s and stock TC, when I switched to 4.10s and stock TC I cut 2.00s, then I added the 3600 performabuilt it cuts 1.83s

First off, I don't know why anyone prefers the EFIlive scanner over HPTuners.

So that was a 1.8 60' in your log? You look to be a few hundred RPMs over IH8FORDs 3.23 log. I take it that's also on the wheels in your sig?

I feel the same way about HPTuners Scanner... Personal preference...

That 60ft in the log was probably a 1.9ish... It was on my 28" slicks on factory 16 wheels... If i try to launch on the wheels in my sig i will just spin and cut 2.4ish 60ft, at least that is what happened last time i tried on my street tires....

Honestly i bet if you advanced that cam 2* it would make a pretty good difference....
