Buy a muffler and weld it in.

Da, good idea, what muffler?
It's 3.5 inch tubing which muffler shops cannot bend, expand, make adaptors for etc,
You kind of need direct fit to do a good job rather than a hack job.

I guess it depends on what sound he wants.

I know youtube can only give you so much for sound quality but I'd look there for options.

It might have to be a custom install, like cutting and welding extra pipe to make it work. I have no idea on the factory muffler length but I bet it's 5-10in longer than an aftermarket unit. So you might have to splice pipe in or grab a piece of straight tubing and heat it up and bend it yourself to make it fit nice.

I know I'm late to the party but here is my truck and this is what I did. I bought a straight 3.5" pipe from summit and a flowmaster delta flow 40. I just unbolted the stock muffler, clamped the flowmaster in, then clamped the straight pipe in (after cutting it to fit) and clamped the factory over the axle pipe on to the straight. I also deleted the resonator at the end of the exhaust and dumped it down, not turned out. Hope this helps
