The 1.7's are a direct bolt in. Pull the valve covers and install. The death flash is Chrysler's roundabout way of fixing spark knock caused by a blown belly pan gasket in the intake manifold. Apparently they've flashed PCM's on trucks that didn't have the blown gasket, when the vehicle was brought into the shop for maintenance. If there is a sticker on your PCM that says "Authorized software update," you need to take down the numbers, and match them up and see what the flash was for. I don't have the link at the moment, but I'll try to post it, that has all the TSB's listed.

Not shifting out could be output speed sensor on it's way out or tv cable needs adjusting. I would get a b&g flash it would probably on cost you a couple dollars more a tank to run premium. You would be in awww by how much it will wake you truck up. I would not mess with a m1 intake you would lose alot of low end. Which you need in a 4x4. What size tires are you running? You might be suprised but 4.56 can help your gas mileage..

I have been running premium with my hypertech and the difference is very noticeable. I am however definitely getting a b&g flash but after i get my headers, stat, ignition, and fans installed-they are sitting in my garage at this very moment just waiting. As for my tires they are 285/70/R17 BFG mud terrains and my rpm are at almost 2k at 60 mph because of my gears which = shitty mileage. Which is why i thin 4.56 would only make the mileage worse.

If you do mostly city driving lower gears will HELP your gas mileage PLUS give you better torque multiplication.
If you do mostly highway driving then you might want to consider higher gears, that would help you final highway mpg.

i had 95 grand cherokee with 318. i put mopar 2bbl performance intake manifold, mopar mid length header w/3 inch all the way(no cat) and mopar performance pcm, it run pretty good but i lost lots of low end torque. if you want to do power adder, try the intake manifold. it should help lots.
