Good motor, lots of front end issues, ball joints, tie rod ends and steering stabilizer they tend to come down with the "death wooble" and shake violently at any speed. Also read up on them melting pistions, apparnetly a problem with common rail Cummins. They are reliable engines, but if your gonna want to add power via a tuner I would be conservative, the trans is also a weak link at higher power levels. I would personally look for an older Duramax, IMO more comfortable and durable. But then again I am a GM guy.

If I were to buy a Dodge with a Cummins it would be an earlier model 94-98 with the P7100 pump.

dont let these guys scare you. the 06 was a good truck. you shouldnt have any death wobble issues with a stock suspension. if you plan on any power adders address the trans first. call HTS they have the best performance trans for the dodge. the injectors are very touchy. make sure you have a great filtration system and they will last a long time. contact pretty much any performance shop about that. (look into either a F.A.S.S or a Air Dog system)
great injection pumps with twin injection pumps you can make over 1300HP at the wheel. have seen it in person. my with twin pumps made 703 at the wheels. also fuel mileage with a tuner is between 18-23 mpg. some have seen higher. best tuner for that is the Smarty.

I just turned 106k miles on my 06 cummins. I've had an exhaust and a programer (100hp and 200ftlbs) since about 10k miles. Given how much driving I do and how hard I am on it I really have no complaints other than replacing 2 injectors and the stock trans is now starting to slip. It lasted a lot longer than I had originally anticipated. My buddies 06 completely destroyed the trans at 35k miles, however he was stacking programers/intake/exhaust and doing about 10 full boost 4wd launches per day. My suspension still feels great.
