Default I Wannna drop a 5.3 in my 87 Blazer K5...NEED HELP!!

well I had bought a 86 Blazer last year i wanted to have as a project but after trying to work with it for a bit I realized is going to cost waaaaay too much money to restore, so I sold it... for the past months I searched texas-wide and I got lucky and landed on a 87 Blazer rust free, all original with the fuel injection 350 and a 700R4.. drove it 300 miles back home without a problem so its really well taken care of, I'll post up pics tomorrow. .. I want to drop a 5.3 on it but have some questions.. first and foremost, besides the 5.3, computer, and wiring, what else will I need to get? Can I still work the 4x4 with a 4L60E or do I have to stick to 700R4? will I have to swap out the transfer case to match the 5.3? any advice is appreciated!!

Why are you wanting to do that? I'm sure that 350 has way more torque, which is much better for wheeling.

You can do the same mods . . . cam and heads . . .

If you're wanting the 5.3 in there . . . start shopping for motor mounts. the 5.3 will bolt up to the trans, it's the same bell housing. I have no idea on the input shaft, and the flex plate.

You could get another 60e and maybe an adapter for the transfer case. I'm sure that you're not the first to do this . . .

But will I get the same power out of it ? If I would I will keep the 350 because 87 was the first fuel injection year, kind of a special year for GM fanatics

you can get a special flywheel from advanced adapters and use your stock convertor/700r4/transfer case. get engine mounts from dirty dingo racing (adjustable) and you can sit the 5.3 directly where the 350 sat. there is no plare out there that you can adust. im using the DD mounts and they where a god send.

i just used motormount adapters($30 on ebay) and my 5.3 sat in just fine. i think there is more power potential from the ls motor than the 350, especialy if the 350 keeps the tbi. theres a good bit of work involved in a swap though. as far as mating the 700r4, you would be able to keep the 700r4 convertor. but you would need an ls conversion flywheel and a torque converter spacer. the ls motor is slighter shorter than the older smallblock, so the spacer is need for the convertor to fully seat.
